AUDITIONS for ADITI DANCE COMPANY and INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED:

Due to scheduling conflicts, the auditions have been postponed and are no longer being held May 7-9.

This is a closed audition.  Unfortunately, guests are not allowed to attend.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Who can audition?  Any student attending Valhalla for the 2008-09 school year and is interested in a performing class may audition.  Incoming freshmen are encouraged to attend.
  • What should I bring?  A water bottle, a snack and dance shoes (preferrably jazz, or jazz sneakers).
  • What should I wear?  Dance attire including tights, leotards, dance shorts are all acceptable.  Movement should not be restricted and hair should be pulled back.
  • What can I expect?  In general, a student may expect the following for auditions:

Day 1 - Introductions, expectations, group warm-up, across the floor combinations, dance routine (mainly jazz) and question and answer session.

Day 2 - Group warm-up, across the floor combinations, dance routine and overview of day 3.

Day 3 - Group warm-up, review of combinations, review of routine, then final audition in groups of five.  (Students auditioning for ADITI must create an additional four counts of eight to the end of the routine). 

  • How will I be judged?  On day 3 of the audition, a panel of judges will score dancers on the following criteria: body alignment, dance technique, skills/potential, musicality, recall of combinations and stage presence.  Example of AuditionRubric.doc.
  • What are the costs involved if I make either group?Students in both groups will need to raise funds two times throughout the year.  How much? The amount will be no more than 200 dollars per student for the entire year. Students will also need their own nude tights and jazz shoes (Black and tan pairs for Aditi and 1 black pair for Intermediate/Advanced).  Other than that, there are no additional costs in either of these performance groups.

  • Dec. 2 & 3 - Winter Dress Rehearsal and Concert (Aditi and Int/Adv)
  • TBA - Winter Sports Assembly - during school hours (Aditi)
  • TBA Late March/Early April - Freshmen Orientation (Aditi)

  • April 27 - May 1 - Spring Concert Rehearsals and Performances (Aditi and Int/Adv)

ADITI AND INT/ADV DANCER CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Attend two Saturday rehearsals throughout the school year (November 22 and April 25)
  • Fundraise at least two times a year
  • Help promote concerts (for example: be at a ticket booth during lunch)
